CARLY TAYLOR-SMITH

CARLY TAYLOR-SMITHI followed my parents to the USA in 2009 after having just completed my first year at University. I first met Jan shortly after arriving when participating in one of his clinics at Canaan Ranch, Houston. I was currently attending University of Houston intending on finishing my degree when Jan very kindly offered me a placement as a working student.

Having now been at The Acres for over a year, I have been fortunate enough to have progressed from working pupil to being Jan’s Assistant. As an assistant I am responsible for the warm up of Jan’s horses, general barn scheduling and feed management; coordinating staffing, website updating and the list goes on…

My FEI horse Onino ‘Neo’ (with whom I represented Great Britain at Junior level) is now back in action after a serious injury which happened last July 2010. He severely fractured his neck after falling in the pasture and it was thought that he would never be ridden again. After 7 months of recovery, and miraculous work from Dr. Kent Sullivan, he pulled through and is now doing better than ever, training PSG/I1 and even some GP movements; I hope to get one more show season out of him before retiring him at the end of 2012. I have also been fortunate enough to have been offered help from my generous sponsors Donna and Lee Phillips in terms of them having purchased a stunning 4 year old gelding from the Verden Auction in Germany.

My immediate ambition is to re-establish myself as a successful competitor, become a clinician, teach and train, taking on a few students and gain as much knowledge from Jan and Amy as I can, not only on the riding and horse management side, but also on the business aspect; so that eventually I can make it on my own and run my own professional dressage barn.

AMANDA HARLAN

AMANDA HARLAN

A sophomore at University of Southern California, 20 year old Amanda Harlan of Oakville CA has been a student of Jan's for seven years. With her Dutch Warmblood, Liberte, her successes have included a 2006 SILVER MEDAL and 2007 & 2009 GOLD MEDALS at the FEI North American Young Rider Championships(Junior Olympics). In 2007 Amanda traveled to Germany with Jan and purchased Rosenzauber 8, a Hanoverian mare now 9 years old.  Jan is currently training and showing Rosenzauber at 4th Level, consistently earning scores in the 70's. The search and puchase of a horse was extremely streamlined and personalized.  Much work had  been done by Jan prior to the trip, and only horses who were appropriate for Amanda's level and goals were

presented for consideration.  The entire process was handled in a very professional manner, with an extremely successful outcome.  Within the next 5 years Liberte will retire, and Amanda will continue her competitive career on Rosenzauber. The Acres provides an environment of great inspiration for Amanda. Jan and Amy are exemplary role models. Hard working, focused and professional, they provide superb training and care for horse & rider, as well as helping strategize and support goals. It is a facility where everyone works and participates, with Jan being the first one out in the morning, and the last one in. Amanda feels honored to be at the Acres and to work with such an extraordinary rider and trainer. She is encouraged and challenged to learn, grow, & stretch, becoming a better rider and person because of it.
VICTORIA NODIFF - NETANEL

VICTORIA NODIFF - NETANEL

Since 1991 Jan has been pivotal in my development as a successful amateur rider.
His teaching style and skills, coupled with the support system his wife, Amy, and The Acres (their ranch) provides is truly unique in the dressage world (or any training facility I know). With his almost zen-like patience, focus and understanding.

Jan has been a trusted mentor, demanding teacher and valued friend both inside and outside of competition. His obvious excitement and joy at my victories has demonstrated the depth of Jan's commitment and involvement in my career (and I know he makes all his students feel just as special!). Not least, his assistance in purchasing the perfect horse (for me!) in Europe, and working with us both to cement the necessary bond

for success has been both inspiring and fulfilling. Although I promised to keep this short, I'd like to finish with a personal "thank you" to Jan and Amy for helping me live my dream  every-time I ride in competition. Thank you!

In the arena of world-class equestrians and dressage trainers, Jan Ebeling distinguishes himself to be among the very elite. Jan has the ability to identify with the goals of the rider, help select the correct mount and successfully train both horse and rider to achieve their goals.

As a professional trainer since 1981 and a competitor I appreciate Jan's expertise and ability to focus on each client and assist them in their efforts to advance. Whether it is an amateur or professional, young horse or FEI, at his training facility or at an away clinic, Jan successfully communicates his knowledge and skill with the individualized attention that makes you feel as though you are his only and favorite client. Jan genuinely cares about each horse and rider partnership he instructs. He continually inspires you to reach for the next level. It's this unique quality that makes the distance between Michigan and California worth the commute.
